BRC Spotlight Series: BRC Championship Qualifiers

Over the coming weeks we will be doing a weekly spotlight on benefits of being a BRC member and what we have to offer as well as general rules and regulations. Today’s focus is BRC championship qualifiers.

Throughout the year, BRC host 7 National Championships, these are:
⭐️Arena Eventing Championships⭐️
⭐️Novice Winter Championships⭐️
⭐️Intermediate Winter Championships⭐️
⭐️Combined Training Championships⭐️
⭐️Horse Trials Championships⭐️
⭐️National Championships⭐️
⭐️Dressage to Music Championships⭐️

There really is something for everyone ranging from intro-advanced medium dressage and 70cm up to 110cm show jumping and 80cm to 100cm cross-country. Here’s a few FAQs regarding qualifiers.

?How do I qualify for a championship? You need to compete at your area qualifier. For details on dates and how to enter a qualifier, please see the following link:

?What if my area is not holding a qualifier or specific class? Your area committee can organise for a neighbouring area to host the qualifier or a specific class on the area’s behalf. You would then be able to enter this qualifier.

?Can I enter more than one qualifier for the same championship? No, you may only compete for the qualifier in your club’s area.

?Can I compete for two clubs throughout the year? You may only compete for one club per season. The championships are split into winter and summer seasons – for confirmation of which championship is in which season, please see G1.2 of the current BRC Handbook. If you compete in a qualifier in the winter season, you will not be permitted to change clubs until the summer season; once you have competed with the new club, you not be able to change again until the winter season. You may be a member of two clubs but only enter area competitions with one.

?How do I know if I am eligible to compete? For full eligibility criteria split by championship and class, please see appendix 2 & 3 of the current BRC Handbook. Or send over you and your horses registered name along with the class you wish to compete in, and we can run a check for you. You will need to send this to

?Can I compete in qualifiers for every championship? Yes, providing you are eligible, you are permitted to enter your area qualifier for each championship.

?Does my horse need to be up to date on vaccinations for the qualifier? Yes, all qualifiers run under BRC rules so therefore the horses must be compliant with up-to-date flu vaccination rules.
How many people qualify? Numbers to qualify are dependant upon entries. For full details on numbers to qualify, please see appendix 10A of the current BRC Handbook.

?How do I know if I have qualified? You will be able to check the numbers to qualify in appendix 10A of the current BRC Handbook to work out if you are in a qualifying position. Once results are sent to HQ, they are eligibility checked and entered onto the BRC Database. HQ will then email a championship invitation to the team manager listed on the declaration sheet from the qualifier. Until this invitation has been received, the qualification is not confirmed.
