ECRC Christmas Show Jumping Report – 20th December 2020

First of all please can I say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the competitors and helpers who came out yesterday.
What an amazing day, it ran so well with the stewards and riders all working together. What superb judges we had, they gave time for riders who had problems, the balance of correct rules and encouragement was fantastic, offering advice where needed. Thank you Steve and Jane.

With over 100 entries we always knew it would be a busy day, we allowed time for people to course walk and warm up and everyone was superb with arriving and competing, all with the most cheerful smiles. Some beautifully decorated horses and riders, one I heard say Christmas has thrown up on her…you know who you are lol .

The 60cm and 70cm were well attended with Tiffany Orme winning both, on 2 different horses, well done Tiff, fastest time over that course all day, Closely followed by Tiggie Witton with the lovely Jerry 2nd in both classes.
Our biggest class of over 30 rider was hotly contested, the judges decided to split into horses and ponies with only 2 ponies double clear and 5 horses.
Julia Bassett popped out for her annual Xmas Jumping event, rode a smooth considered round to win the 85cm with 5 seconds to spare. The last two classes were hotly contested with Evie Baker and Jasper taking
some superb turns to win both classes…with exactly the same time on the clock, so closely followed by Pheobe on Martha 2nd in both classes, both horses and riders were part of the winning Intermediate SJ team that won
their class at the qualifier last week. Well Done girls.

Full results will be posted on the Facebook page and ECRC website.
It has been a tough year for riders and organisers in 2020, so many events cancelled, often after hours of organising, so we were delighted to be able to run. Wishing all our members a very Merry Christmas .

Now that the year is fast coming to a close , don’t forget to renew your membership ready for the 2021 season & staying at £25.

We’ve already had great successes since the AGM on December 3rd.

6th Dec : Area 19 Arena Eventing Qualifier at Bicton arena with Sr & Jr Team & individual placings  – championships to take place at Aston le Walls in March.

13th Dec : Area 19 Junior Dressage / SJ day Qualifier at Colraine EC , again the juniors absolutely smashed it out of the park with many individual and team placings – BRC champions Arena UK in March and Bury Farm in April .

With so many championships it would be appreciated if any of our members could or know of a business that would be happy to help towards costs , Especially to purchase team clothing ?

Our final event this year was our annual Christmas show Jumping held at Duchy college, the event was very well attended with over 100 class entries. I’d like to say a very special thank you to Cathy Busby who organised this event but also Megan and Rosie for helping out all day along with all our volunteers, we can not run without your help. We where also very lucky to have Jane Fisher who is our BRC Area Rep & her husband Steve who judged the showjumping.
All being well we have a busy January.

Starting with John Chubb Dressage clinic 10th Jan , followed by our Dressage competition  17th Jan , both at Duchy college, see website for events & clinics for 2021.

We welcome any feedback & ideas the members might have & look forward in meeting you all out & about next year.

Happy New year to you all & stay safe.

BRC Spotlight Series: Riding Tests

Over the coming weeks we will be doing a weekly spotlight on benefits of being a BRC member and what we have to offer as well as general rules and regulations. Today’s focus is the BRC Riding Test.

?What is a Riding Test? BRC Riding Tests are judged on the competence of the rider and their influence on the horse or pony, not as a Dressage Test. Although the same scale of marks is given. The judge will watch the rider continuously and then give marks for each directive.

?Where can I enter these? Riding Test classes are only run at the National Championships, so you will be able to enter these at your area qualifier for these championships. Riding Test classes can also be run at club level competitions.

?Will it be marked on a normal score sheet? No, we use our own score sheets for these competitions which give a mark for each directive and then an overall comment at the end.

?What level will the dressage test be? We run a Riding Test for Prelim and Novice levels at qualifier and championship level.

?How do I know if I am eligible? Eligibility criteria can be found in the National Championships section of the eligibility table in the current BRC Handbook, appendix 2&
